One of the greatest gifts we can give our pets is a life filled with love—and when the time comes, a peaceful, compassionate goodbye.

At Cedar Bluff Animal Clinic, we're here to support you through every stage of your pet's life, including one of the most difficult decisions you'll ever have to make. Whether you're beginning to notice changes in your pet's quality of life or you're facing an immediate decision, our veterinary team is here to answer your questions, offer guidance, and help you choose the path that's right for your pet and your family.

Knowing When
It's Time

One of the questions we hear most often is, "How will I know when it's time?"

The answer is different for every pet. While there isn't a single moment that tells you it's time to say goodbye, there are changes that may indicate your pet's quality of life is declining.

Some signs to watch for include:

  • Loss of interest in family members or favorite activities
  • Difficulty standing, walking, or getting comfortable
  • Ongoing pain that can no longer be managed
  • Loss of appetite or refusal to eat
  • Frequent accidents or loss of mobility
  • More bad days than good days

If you're unsure what your pet is telling you, we're here to help. Together, we can evaluate your pet's quality of life and discuss the options available to keep them as comfortable as possible. Sometimes the kindest decision is also the hardest one. When that time comes, we'll be here to support you with honesty, compassion, and respect—never judgment.

Saying
Goodbye

When the time comes, our hope is to make your pet's final moments as peaceful, comfortable, and filled with love as possible.

There is no right or wrong way to say goodbye. Some families prefer quiet moments together, while others find comfort in sharing stories, holding their pet close, or simply sitting together in silence. Whatever feels right for you, we'll do our best to honor your wishes and give you the time you need to say goodbye.

We encourage you to bring a favorite blanket, toy, or other comfort item if it will help your pet feel more at ease. We'll move at your family's pace, answer any questions that arise, and ensure you never feel rushed during this deeply personal experience.

Above all, our team will be there to provide a calm, compassionate presence, caring for your beloved companion with the same kindness, dignity, and respect we would our own.

Aftercare
& Keepsakes

After your pet's passing, we'll guide you through the aftercare options available and answer any questions you may have.

We proudly partner with Yeargan Pet Cremation Services to provide compassionate cremation services and memorial options for families who choose them. They also have a beautiful selection of keepsake options to help honor the bond you shared.
